Job Description
Chief Actuary leading pricing, reserving, forecasting, and Medicare Advantage strategy for Clover Health’s data-driven health insurance business. Modernizing actuarial operations through AI, automation, governance, and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Clover's enterprise actuarial function, including pricing, forecasting, reserving, medical economics, Part D, Stars analytics, and bid strategy
- Establish the long-term vision for actuarial and modernize the function through AI, automation, and scalable analytical infrastructure
- Build AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual effort, accelerate insight generation, and improve actuarial decision-making while ensuring explainability, governance, and regulatory compliance
- Lead the annual Medicare Advantage bid strategy and pricing process
- Assume responsibility for actuarial opinions, reserve adequacy, and related regulatory actuarial requirements
- Guide reserving methodology, IBNR development, forecasting, and emerging experience analysis
- Partner with Finance leadership on forecasting, planning, capital management, and enterprise performance measurement
- Collaborate with Medical Economics on healthcare cost trends, interventions, member outcomes, and medical expense
- Drive adoption of modern analytics tools and AI capabilities across the actuarial organization
- Advise executive leadership by translating actuarial concepts into business recommendations
- Lead, develop, and scale the actuarial organization, including organizational design, performance management, workforce capacity, and talent development
- Build partnerships across Finance, Clinical, Operations, Growth, Data Science, and Engineering
- Establish and maintain actuarial governance, model review, documentation, control, and validation standards
- In the first 90 days, build relationships, assess the organization and tools, develop an AI adoption roadmap, and learn pricing, forecasting, reserving, and medical economics processes
- In the first 6 months, implement AI-enabled workflows, strengthen forecasting/reserving/bid processes, assume additional actuarial responsibilities, and establish the long-term organizational vision
- Long term, build a modern AI-enabled actuarial organization, improve forecasting accuracy and efficiency, and develop a high-performing strategic actuarial team
Requirements:
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
- Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
- Significant leadership experience in Medicare Advantage actuarial functions, including pricing, reserving, forecasting, and bid development
- Demonstrated experience deploying AI workflows across functional areas
- Enthusiasm for applying automation and modern tooling to improve the actuarial function
- Experience leading large, cross-functional initiatives that influence executive decision-making
- Comfortable discussing actuarial methodology with technical experts and communicating business implications to executives and non-technical stakeholders
- Track record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing actuarial teams
- Ability to thrive in fast-moving environments where you can build, innovate, and shape the future of an organization
