Job Description

Lead The Hanover’s Core Commercial Lines actuarial practice, pricing, and data science teams. Shaping strategy, profitability, regulatory filings, and data-driven business decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of the actuarial practice for The Hanover’s Core Commercial Lines portfolio
  • Help shape Core Commercial business strategy and initiate solutions amid ambiguity
  • Direct actuarial, data science, and integration teams
  • Drive pricing sophistication, portfolio management, rate development and execution, third-party data integration, and competitive intelligence
  • Share ownership and accountability for profitability across Core Commercial lines and aggregate business unit performance
  • Counsel senior management and business leaders on appropriate courses of action
  • Represent the organization to internal and external audiences
  • Participate in strategy development and ensure effective implementation of business strategies
  • Monitor trends in results and profitability by line, product, state, industry, and business unit
  • Guide execution of adequate manual-rate filings across lines and jurisdictions and provide policy/account-level pricing guidance
  • Improve actuarial and data science processes, models, and methods
  • Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Present findings and recommendations, influence decisions, and facilitate implementation
  • Partner with internal and external clients to establish and achieve priorities and goals
  • Collaborate with actuarial and analytics leaders to foster actuarial development and data science expertise
  • Collaborate with technology, data science, and data partners on governance and compliance
  • Leverage AI and automation to optimize productivity and outcomes
  • Manage team performance and compensation
  • Oversee financial budget and metrics for the applicable function

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in a relevant technical field
  • 10+ years of technical experience, including a minimum of 10 years in management
  • FCAS Designation required
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex actuarial and data science concepts to business partners
  • Knowledge and understanding of unit/corporate strategy, financial goals, and business and industry trends
  • Proven success working in a matrixed organization and across different businesses and functional areas
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all techniques used to model various assumptions
  • Expertise in data, modeling, and monitoring in support of business objectives
  • Experience in navigating state regulatory environments
  • Able to apply and interpret company policies and procedures
