Job Description
Cloud GIS Engineer administering highly available ArcGIS Enterprise platforms for SAIC’s federal geospatial clients. Automating AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes deployments, IaC, and CI/CD.
Responsibilities:
- Administer, configure, and optimize ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes in cloud-hosted environments
- Support and enhance ArcGIS Enterprise architectures on EC2 and containerized Kubernetes deployments
- Handle requests, incidents, and changes for federal geospatial hosting customers in a ticket-driven support model
- Lead cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and maintenance using AWS, Azure, or other major clouds
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions such as Terraform/Terragrunt for automated provisioning and configuration
- Design, implement, and support CI/CD pipelines for ArcGIS Enterprise configurations, custom extensions, and infrastructure
- Support ArcGIS for Kubernetes deployments, including cluster configuration, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with cloud and security teams to meet federal security and compliance requirements
- Troubleshoot issues across application, operating system, network, and cloud layers; perform root cause analysis and long-term remediation
- Create and maintain architectures, SOPs, runbooks, and configuration baselines
- Gather requirements, propose solutions, and implement changes with internal and client stakeholders under formal change management
- Participate in on-call or after-hours maintenance windows as required
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, Engineering, or related field; or 4 additional years of related experience in lieu of degree
- 5+ years administering ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise in production, including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Data Store, and related components
- Administration on both Windows and Linux
- 3+ years as a Cloud Engineer with at least one major provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience provisioning and managing compute, storage, and network resources
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and backup for cloud-hosted workloads
- Familiarity with IaC such as Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, or ARM, with ability to design and maintain production IaC solutions
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps, including source control, testing, and deployment integration
- 2+ years with Kubernetes, preferably in production, including cluster configuration, management, and troubleshooting
- Experience deploying and managing containerized applications
- Experience in ticket-based support environments such as Jira or ServiceNow, managing incidents, service requests, and changes
- Strong understanding of DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPCs, and routing for cloud-hosted applications and ArcGIS Enterprise
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Preferred: hands-on deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes
- Preferred: knowledge of ArcGIS for Kubernetes architecture, scaling, and operational best practices
- Preferred: production Terraform/Terragrunt use for complex, multi-environment cloud infrastructure
- Preferred: Git workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews
- Preferred: GitHub Actions or GitLab CI implementation for infrastructure and application deployments
- Preferred: AWS cloud networking, including private/public subnets, security groups/NSGs, peering, and performance optimization
- Preferred: scalable, highly available ArcGIS Enterprise architecture for federal or large enterprises
- Preferred: ArcGIS Enterprise integration with external identity providers, databases, and application stacks
- Preferred: Jira incident, change, and problem management experience
- Preferred: familiarity with workflows, dashboards, and reporting for queues and SLAs
- Preferred certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Esri geospatial administration or management certification
