Job Description
Remote medical coder assigning CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCs codes for UofL Health’s integrated academic health system. Ensuring compliant billing, documentation, denials resolution, and reimbursement.
Responsibilities:
- Abstract information from service documentation and assign and sequence CPT, ICD-10, HCPCs codes, and modifiers into billing systems
- Ensure coding compliance with federal, state, private health plan, organizational, and regulatory guidelines
- Review and resolve coding denials
- Complete charge sessions in assigned work queues in a timely manner
- Complete documentation meeting current EM Guidelines for providers
- Ensure documentation meets CMS Teaching Physician Rules and UofL Health policies before code release for billing
- Ensure Advanced Practice Provider documentation meets payer-specific rules before code release for billing
- Provide comments and suggestions on weak areas identified in coding reviews
- Report trending deficiencies to the Senior Manager and Compliance Educator
- Meet or exceed organizational coding production and quality standards
- Participate in special projects and perform other assigned duties
- Maintain daily/weekly communication with office managers, departments, and providers
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED/equivalent (required)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) accredited by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (required)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P) or Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (required)
- One to four (1-4) years physician coding experience (preferred)
- Ability to work within a team environment and meet monthly goals
- Ability to maintain compliance with coding rules and regulations, company policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and HIPAA privacy and security requirements
- Ability to communicate with office managers, departments, providers, managers, and representatives
- Ability to respond in a timely manner to questions
