Job Description
Communications Assistant supporting Independent Women’s conservative policy mission through media outreach, bookings, training, and impact reporting. Fast-paced newsroom environment focused on national media engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop media outreach materials and maintain a robust rolodex of media contacts
- Maintain and expand organized press lists across broadcast and print media
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, talking points, booking pitches, and background materials
- Assist with pitching and placements of op-eds written by spokeswomen
- Generate media kits, production elements, and one-pagers for bookings and special projects
- Conduct outreach to print, broadcast, digital, radio, podcast, media influencer, and new media contacts
- Develop and maintain relationships with reporters, bookers, producers, editors, and new media contacts
- Assist with documentary and long-form new media partnerships
- Monitor the news cycle and support rapid response efforts
- Manage media booking calendars for spokeswomen
- Assist with scripts for video productions
- Maintain organized media-ready photos, event footage, and video production elements
- Manage Substack content posting and media engagement
- Provide media support at press conferences, media events, policy events, and partner activations
- Travel as needed for media event opportunities
- Assist with pre- and post-production needs for media events
- Assist with media trainings, mock interviews, and message preparation
- Distribute post-training materials and resources
- Coordinate at-home studio setup and maintenance for spokeswomen
- Support technology and setup needs for virtual interviews
- Track print and broadcast coverage and flag high-impact placements
- Manage media clipping, reporting systems, and performance analytics
- Track documentary and feature impact metrics
- Compile and assess ambassador and surrogate media activity
- Gather metrics for impact reports and ensure impact data is accessible
- Add commentary to impact reports and support outreach to the White House, Capitol Hill, states, and coalitions
- Draft media impact case studies
- Secure meaningful media placements, prepare spokespeople, produce error-free messaging, and inform communications strategy
Requirements:
- Commitment to conservative policy principles and shaping public preferences, policies, and movements
- 1–2 years of experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, or related field
- Strong writing skills
- Experience engaging with media
- Familiarity with media tracking and analytics tools
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Self-starter who thrives both independently and collaboratively
- High attention to detail and strong execution mindset
