Job Description

Engineering Manager leading DataTech teams for PitchBook, a platform providing investment professionals with company data and analytics. Improving delivery, reliability, capacity planning, SDLC execution, and engineering team development.

Responsibilities:

  • Own delivery and engineering outcomes for DataTech teams
  • Be accountable for delivery, velocity, quality, reliability and scalability
  • Align work with DataTech priorities using visualization and reporting
  • Ensure effective execution across refinement, design, estimation, implementation, testing and deployment
  • Identify execution gaps and improve delivery practices with SDE Leads
  • Improve AI-enabled SDLC adoption, including SDD frameworks and practices
  • Own short- and long-term capacity and capability planning
  • Allocate people according to priorities and delivery commitments
  • Surface capacity and delivery risks and drive mitigation
  • Own platform stability, reliability, performance and overall quality
  • Ensure customer support, incident management, observability and operational processes
  • Balance delivery with technical health and operational needs
  • Manage engineers and SDE Leads through coaching, feedback, growth and performance management
  • Build and evolve teams through hiring, onboarding and skill-mix development
  • Maintain healthy team dynamics and address people issues early
  • Improve engineering practices and collaboration
  • Partner with Product, Data and other domains to align plans and manage dependencies
  • Contribute to domain-level planning and cross-team collaboration

Requirements:

  • Proven engineering leadership experience managing multiple software/data engineering teams
  • Strong track record of delivery, including improving planning, prioritization and execution
  • Ability to use delivery data, visualization and reporting to identify problems and drive improvements
  • Strong people-management skills, including coaching, performance management and team development
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to work with engineering leads to improve delivery practices
  • Effective use of GenAI and SDD
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ownership mindset with accountability for delivery, long-term quality and maintainability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Bonus: Experience in data ingestion, processing or curation domains
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Stream-Aligned Teams / Team Topologies
  • Bonus: Experience with Architecture, Platform, SRE and other enabling teams
  • Bonus: Experience improving observability, reliability and incident management for backend/data services
