Job Description

Engineering Manager leading software teams at Vestd, a sharetech platform for equity management. Combining people leadership, delivery oversight, and hands-on PHP/Laravel engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Line manage software engineers and support their development and progression
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and handle performance concerns fairly and consistently
  • Work with engineering and product leaders to monitor capacity and surface risks early
  • Help teams remove blockers and improve delivery predictability without unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Develop and improve engineering management practices, including onboarding, succession planning, retention, and ways of working
  • Contribute directly to software development for approximately 20% to 40% of the time
  • Build production software, internal tools, prototypes, and technical improvements
  • Coach engineers and contribute to technical decisions
  • Maintain technical standards by staying close to the work
  • Support the continued growth and development of Vestd’s engineering organisation

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience
  • Strong track record designing, building, shipping, and maintaining production software
  • Recent practical development experience and ability to contribute to a modern codebase
  • Proven experience managing software engineers in a growing technology organisation
  • Strong technical judgement and credibility to coach engineers and constructively challenge technical decisions
  • Experience handling difficult conversations, performance concerns, and career development
  • Pragmatic approach to process and bureaucracy
  • Familiarity with PHP and Laravel, or a comparable backend framework and willingness to work comfortably in that environment
  • Impeccable attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a remote-first environment
  • Primarily India-based and eligible to work in India
  • Suitable, quiet working space with an appropriate desk/table and chair
  • Reliable internet connection
