Job Description

Engineering Manager leading SailPoint’s secure customer-deployed virtual appliance platform. Driving predictable delivery, reliability, modernization, and engineering team growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow the software engineering team responsible for SailPoint’s customer-deployed virtual appliance
  • Own engineering execution and collaborate with Product Management on the roadmap
  • Coach engineers, review architectural proposals, refine sprint priorities, coordinate releases and incident follow-ups, and communicate roadmap progress and risks
  • Provide technical guidance on Linux, virtualization, containerization, and customer-deployed software
  • Develop the team’s Scrum practices around a predictable two-week sprint cadence while responding to urgent customer and operational needs
  • Champion responsible use of modern AI and LLM capabilities to improve engineering effectiveness, quality, decision-making, and business outcomes
  • Own the complete lifecycle of the virtual appliance, including architecture, development, distribution, installation, upgrades, patching, compatibility, vulnerability remediation, diagnostics, reliability, and incident response
  • Build trusted relationships with team members and cross-functional partners
  • Assess delivery practices, staffing needs, near-term priorities, and technical risks
  • Own engineering execution, team development, delivery reporting, dependency management, and risk communication
  • Establish backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and visible progress against commitments
  • Define and execute hiring and team-development plans
  • Improve platform stability, supportability, delivery predictability, production ownership, incident response, vulnerability remediation, and reliability
  • Introduce practical, responsible AI-assisted workflows
  • Establish and execute a multi-quarter technical strategy for platform modernization and architectural evolution

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing and developing software engineers
  • Proven experience leading teams that build customer-installed applications, virtual appliances, connectors, gateways, or comparable software deployed in customer-managed environments
  • Experience building software that securely connects customer environments with cloud-based SaaS services
  • Strong technical understanding of Linux, virtualization, and containerization, with the ability to read and understand code and contribute meaningfully to architecture and design discussions
  • Experience managing the lifecycle of customer-deployed software, including distribution, upgrades, patching, compatibility, diagnostics, vulnerability remediation, and incident response
  • Demonstrated success implementing and refining Agile/Scrum practices to create predictable delivery while responding effectively to urgent needs
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, managing performance, and supporting the career development of engineers
  • Excellent planning, reporting, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills
  • Experience leading distributed teams and collaborating effectively across time zones
  • Hands-on fluency with modern AI and LLM tools, including experience using reusable skills and agents to achieve engineering and business outcomes and sound judgment about when an agent, skill, or conversational assistant is the right approach
  • A strong product, customer, security, and reliability mindset
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
