Job Description
Fire alarm technician programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting life-safety systems for Sciens Building Solutions. Coordinating installations, inspections, and customer acceptance with project teams.
Responsibilities:
- Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution
- Produce field surveys and daily project activity logs
- Program and commission complex fire alarm systems through final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA
- Troubleshoot complex issues and resolve them effectively
- Deliver projects on schedule and within cost budgets
- Program systems via laptop computers
- Assist with project inventory oversight and manage vehicle inventory
- Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians
- Assist with job scheduling and progress management efficiently and cost-effectively
- Demonstrate equipment and control-unit operation to customers and explain system signals and responses
- Comply with industry-standard procedures and Sciens safety programs and policies
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry
- Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently
- Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors
- Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions
- Intermediate computer knowledge related to software use and installation
- Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units
- Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements
- Intermediate knowledge of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code
- Intermediate knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state-adopted building code
- Intermediate knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 for fire systems and circuiting
- State, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications as determined by the business
- NICET I certification
- Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements
- Ability to read fire system design drawings
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work independently with some supervision
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification
- Proficient in issue resolution
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills
- Physical ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, work from heights, climb ladders, and stand/walk most of the workday
- Ability to travel occasionally overnight as needed
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
