Job Description
Lead Java engineer building scalable backend services for Allstate’s Dealer Services claims platform. Driving microservices, CI/CD, production operations, and technical modernization.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting enterprise payment solutions
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including iteration planning, standups, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions
- Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of scalable microservices and distributed systems
- Apply clean code principles, test-driven development, code reviews, and automated testing
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support applications in production environments
- Contribute to coding standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices
- Help design, build, and deliver operational claims systems supporting Allstate Dealer Services
- Help shape the technical direction of a platform modernizing claims operations
Requirements:
- 4+ years of software development experience using Java and J2EE technologies, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IoC, Spring Security, Spring AOP, and related Spring frameworks
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, service discovery, testing, and microservice architectures
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and modern software development practices
- Experience with relational databases, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and SQL development
- Experience with automated testing and Test Driven Development (TDD) using frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, JBehave, or similar tools
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, Maven, or equivalent technologies
- Experience deploying and operating containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, or similar platforms
- Experience developing and supporting production services with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog or equivalent
- Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or XP environments
- Experience with application security and quality tooling such as SonarQube, Fortify, Contrast, or similar products
- Experience building and operating high-volume, distributed systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability
- Experience with messaging and event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, PCF, Azure, or equivalent cloud environments
- Exposure to modern front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React, or Angular
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills
- Successful completion of a background investigation
