Job Description
Software Engineer building high-performance advisory-trading services for Alpaca, a global brokerage infrastructure provider. Designing distributed systems for block trading, portfolio management, and IRA products.
Responsibilities:
- Build Alpaca's proprietary services for users' advisory services, including block trading, portfolio management, and IRA
- Design and architect the platform in a small, early-stage team
- Write substantial production code
- Make critical decisions to deliver high-quality, high-performance customer experiences
- Work across frontend, backend, databases, distributed systems, CPU-level hardware, concurrency design, high-availability architecture, and object-oriented data modeling
Requirements:
- Previous software engineering experience with trading or exchange systems (OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, quant trading)
- System design skills with object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architectures, and system abstraction
- Strong software engineering experience; Senior experience is preferred
- Coding skills in both low- and high-level languages around C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, and Python
- Low-latency and high-throughput optimization
- Experience with messaging queues and message brokers
- Analytical, data-oriented mindset and skills
- Knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, low-latency systems, and concurrency control
- Experience with the development and implementation of Order Management Systems (OMS) and/or highly loaded financial transactional systems
- FIX protocol knowledge is a nice-to-have
- Experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and benchmarking is a nice-to-have
