Job Description
Senior Staff GNC Engineer developing guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for Shield AI’s intelligent defense systems. Advancing high-performance flight through modeling, simulation, and real-world control optimization.
Responsibilities:
- Research and develop state-of-the-art Guidance, Navigation, and Control algorithms for high-performance flight
- Work as a GNC Engineer on an agile, first-principles-driven team
- Push the boundaries of state-of-the-art technology for a blue-sky project
- Tune and optimize control systems in simulation and real-world environments
- Solve complex problems in a fast-moving environment
- Collaborate as a trustworthy teammate with strong communication and considerate conduct
Requirements:
- BS in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering with a focus on Control Systems
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or 4 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience in vehicle dynamics modeling, flight controls, or simulation
- Experience with C++ in a production environment
- Experience with Matlab and Simulink
- Expert knowledge of aircraft dynamics and control, stability, and handling qualities
- Experience tuning and optimizing control systems in simulation and real-world environments
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
- Preferred: MS or PhD in a related engineering field with a focus on Control Systems
- Preferred: Experience with Modern Control Theory, including LQR/LQG, Adaptive Control, Robust Control, and Model Predictive Control (MPC)
- Preferred: Proficiency extracting linear aircraft state-space models from nonlinear equations of motion
- Preferred: Proficiency designing or selecting servos, inertial navigation systems, air data units, and vision-based navigation systems
- Preferred: Familiarity with Kalman Filters, system identification techniques, git, and continuous integration and delivery
