Job Description

Underwriter Co-Signer at Manulife delivering high-quality underwriting services and mentoring junior staff. Managing applications worth up to $10 million while ensuring compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and make underwriting decisions on life and critical illness insurance applications with approval limits up to $10 million.
  • Manage a high volume of applications, with an expectation to process and make decisions on approximately 20-30 applications per day.
  • Ensure prompt and efficient service by maintaining a cycle time that supports timely decisions and exceptional customer service.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and coaching to junior underwriting staff to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of underwriting decisions to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including claims, legal, and customer service, to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in life and critical illness underwriting, with a proven track record of handling high-value cases.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field.
  • Professional underwriting certifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach junior staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Bilingual (French & English) is an asset.
