Job Description

Entry-level Machinist Assistant supporting repairs, maintenance, welding, and startup of seafood-processing equipment. Seasonal contract in remote Naknek, Alaska, with airfare and on-site room and board.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist plant machinists with day-to-day tasks
  • Assist with repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment in assigned areas
  • Provide support and take direction from plant machinists
  • Perform beginning-of-shift preparations for food processing equipment, including greasing, assembly, inspection, repair, and startup
  • Participate in preseason projects, including equipment installation, fabrication, and rebuilds
  • Participate in welding using arc, TIG, MIG, and oxyacetylene methods
  • Perform other tasks, duties, and training as assigned

Requirements:

  • Entry-level position with the goal of training an individual to become a machinist
  • Ability to work well with others in a multicultural environment
  • Must be available to work overtime as required
  • Ability to work 11 or more hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Ability to perform duties safely, responsibly, and efficiently
  • Timely and predictable attendance
  • Professionalism and safe quality work standards
  • Follow company and OSHA safety policies, including policies related to Covid-19
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to learn and take direction
  • Ability to work under pressure while remaining safe and efficient
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat for extended periods
  • Must be able to stand for long periods
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to work in a cold and wet environment
  • Must be able to work with and around seafood
  • Must be willing and able to travel by airplane to a remote location
