Job Description
Materials and engineering experts creating realistic, scorable tasks for Mercor’s frontier AI systems. Testing model performance and refining evaluations with domain specialists.
Responsibilities:
- Author domain-authentic materials-science or engineering tasks based on real professional work
- Build data rooms and grading criteria that make tasks objectively scorable
- Run tasks against AI models, analyze successes and failures, and iterate until tasks discriminate effectively
- Collaborate with project leads and other domain experts to define quality standards
- Help train and enhance frontier AI systems through human expertise
Requirements:
- Senior expertise in materials science, including metals, ceramics, composites, characterization, or additive manufacturing; or electrical engineering, including analog, RF, or power; or mechanical engineering, including design, CFD and fluids, heat transfer, pressure vessels, NDE, or CAE
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity
- Able to explain why a wrong answer is wrong, not only identify the right answer
- Independent contractor engagement
- Must not be an H1-B or STEM OPT candidate, as Mercor cannot support those statuses
- Work must not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
