Job Description
Materials and engineering experts creating objectively scorable tasks to evaluate AI models. Mercor partners with AI labs and enterprises to train frontier systems using human expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Author domain-authentic materials science and engineering tasks based on prior work experience
- Build data rooms and grading criteria for objectively scorable tasks
- Run tasks against AI models
- Analyze model successes and failures
- Iterate tasks until they effectively discriminate model performance
- Collaborate with project leads and other domain experts to define quality standards
Requirements:
- Senior expertise in materials science (metals, ceramics, composites, characterization, additive manufacturing), electrical engineering (analog, RF, power), or mechanical engineering (design, CFD and fluids, heat transfer, pressure vessels, NDE, CAE)
- Able to navigate ambiguity
- Able to explain why a wrong answer is wrong
- Independent contractor status
- Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT support
- Work must not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
