Job Description

OBGYN medical coder reviewing records and assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for U.S. healthcare clients. Supporting clinic, surgery, and professional fee/facility coding remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures for patient healthcare encounters
  • Abstract appropriate information from medical records according to client guidelines
  • Request physician clarification for ambiguous or conflicting documentation
  • Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 datasets
  • Provide coding and abstracting services for professional fee medical records across specialties
  • Mentor training coders and/or new hires through education and training
  • Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
  • Participate in industry forums as applicable
  • Support coding education within the team

Requirements:

  • Required certification: CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA
  • At least 3 years of professional fee and facility coding experience
  • Strong professional fee/facility OBGYN clinic and surgery coding skills, including office and surgical coding
  • Experience coding clinic E&M and CPTs
  • Coding productivity expectation of 10 per hour
  • Experience with EPIC, 3M, and 360
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines
  • Knowledge of reimbursement systems and federal, state, and payer-specific documentation, coding, and billing regulations and policies
  • Must pass coding proficiency test
