Job Description
Principal Product Designer shaping AI-native UX platforms and design systems. New Relic develops observability software helping companies optimize complex digital applications.
Responsibilities:
- Own the most complex and ambiguous design problems across the UX Platform, from framing through detailed craft, end to end without oversight
- Design AI-native interfaces for non-deterministic experiences and establish principles and heuristics for coherent outputs
- Evolve AI-first, spec-driven design workflows and evaluate whether higher-quality software is being shipped
- Set standards for documentation and traceability through clear specs, references, and rationale
- Serve as a senior design judgment point and product subject matter expert
- Deputize for the Design Director in Product and Engineering reviews
- Shape strategic direction and maintain the quality bar across the product
- Strengthen connections between product design and the Design System
- Define systems and processes that benefit teams across the company
- Partner with Product and Engineering to align direction and maintain a healthy work cadence
- Mentor designers and raise the team’s overall craft level
Requirements:
- Extensive product design experience, including senior or lead work on complex software products
- Portfolio demonstrating depth of craft and systems thinking across product design and design systems
- Recognized mastery of craft and track record of raising the collective quality bar
- Experience defining patterns, systems, or processes adopted by others
- Track record of independently owning ambiguous problems and driving real outcomes end to end without oversight
- Comfort designing AI-native, non-deterministic experiences
- Enthusiasm for evolving AI-first design workflows
- Discerning approach to AI experimentation and ability to identify where it adds real value
- Ability to act as a subject matter expert, shape priorities, lead research where useful, and interpret analysis into design decisions
- Proven ability to influence Product and Engineering partners without formal authority
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Habit of clearly documenting decisions, rationale, and references
