Job Description

Product Designer crafting social connection features for Chess.com, a global chess gaming and learning platform. Designing polished web, iOS, and Android experiences for millions of players.

Responsibilities:

  • Design polished, production-ready user interfaces for Chess.com apps across web, iOS, and Android
  • Own project design from early problem definition through implementation
  • Ensure strong design-to-code alignment throughout projects
  • Partner with Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements and explore design directions
  • Use Chess.com design patterns and design system to create responsive, interactive experiences
  • Create and iterate on prototypes using tools like Cursor and Claude
  • Present work and explain design decisions using rationale, user insights, and product context
  • Participate proactively in the Slack-heavy remote environment
  • Ask questions early, suggest improvements, and contribute constructive feedback to the design team

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of experience working as a Product Designer on a consumer-facing product or game
  • A portfolio showing polished UI design for web and mobile apps demonstrating personal contribution
  • Strong command of UI design fundamentals, including typography, color, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast, and interactivity
  • Experience working with an established design system using tokens, components, and design patterns
  • Familiarity with frontend development and how design translates into code
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude to prototype and iterate on ideas
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, ownership, and follow-through in a remote, globally distributed team
  • Applicants globally eligible; requires at least 3 hours of overlap with U.S. working hours
