Job Description

Propulsion and effects engineer creating dual-use prompts and evaluating frontier AI model safety. Writing technical reference answers grounded in real propulsion and initiation-system expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Write challenging single-turn prompts in the propulsion and effects domain
  • Label prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
  • Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
  • Judge whether responses handled technical requests correctly
  • Write reference answers and explain the technical reasoning behind them
  • Red-team frontier AI models on misuse-potential judgments
  • Sustain reading and writing about misuse scenarios in the field

Requirements:

  • Background designing, qualifying, or testing propulsion and initiation systems, with real hardware and real test data
  • Relevant experience in munitions or warhead design and effects engineering
  • Relevant experience in solid, liquid, or hybrid propulsion system design, test, and qualification
  • Relevant experience in terminal effects modelling, including blast, fragmentation, or penetration
  • Relevant experience in fuzing, safe-and-arm, and initiation system engineering
  • Relevant experience in test range engineering and instrumentation for propulsion or ordnance
  • Ability to distinguish routine professional questions from potentially harmful requests
  • Strong technical writing ability; every judgment requires a written rationale understandable to non-specialists
  • Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is strongly valued
  • Must provide a writing sample or link
  • Must not use classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information in the work
  • Qualified applicants considered without regard to legally protected characteristics

Benefits:

  • Up to $250 for each successful referral through the unique referral link
  • Reasonable accommodations upon request
  • Ability to pause or step away from misuse-scenario work at any point without penalty
