Job Description

Propulsion and effects engineer creating dual-use safety prompts and evaluating frontier AI responses. Applying real hardware and test-data expertise to distinguish legitimate requests from dangerous misuse.

Responsibilities:

  • Write challenging single-turn prompts in the propulsion and effects domain
  • Label prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
  • Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
  • Judge whether responses were handled correctly
  • Write reference answers describing correct responses and the technical reasoning behind them
  • Distinguish routine professional questions from requests indicating potential misuse
  • Apply real-world propulsion, initiation, and effects engineering expertise to red-team frontier AI models

Requirements:

  • Experience designing, qualifying, or testing propulsion and initiation systems with real hardware and real test data
  • Relevant background in munitions or warhead design and effects engineering
  • Experience with solid, liquid, or hybrid propulsion system design, test, and qualification
  • Experience with terminal effects modelling, including blast, fragmentation, or penetration
  • Experience with fuzing, safe-and-arm, and initiation system engineering
  • Experience in test range engineering and instrumentation for propulsion or ordnance
  • Prior red-teaming experience ideally
  • Strong technical writing ability; every judgment requires a written rationale understandable to non-specialists
  • Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is a strong signal
  • Must not use classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information
  • Applicants with such obligations must disclose them so work can be scoped accordingly
  • Must provide a technical writing sample or link if available
  • Ability to read and write about misuse scenarios in the field for sustained periods
  • Qualified applicants considered without regard to legally protected characteristics

Benefits:

  • Earn up to $250 for each successful referral; referral limits apply
  • Reasonable accommodations upon request
  • Ability to pause or step away from misuse-scenario work at any point without penalty
