Job Description
OpenShift virtualization engineer managing VMware, Kubernetes, and OpenShift platforms for SS&C’s financial-services and healthcare technology customers. Automating migrations, cluster operations, and application delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware and OpenShift clusters on-premises
- Monitor cluster performance and troubleshoot issues
- Manage user access and permissions within OpenShift
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate application deployment
- Work with development teams to optimize applications running on OpenShift
- Create and maintain documentation for OpenShift configurations and procedures
- Stay current with OpenShift and Kubernetes features and best practices
- Collaborate with security teams on best practices for containerized applications
- Execute conversions and migrations from VMware to OpenShift
- Manage VMware environments
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support continuous integration and delivery workflows
Requirements:
- Hands-on administration of OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) on bare-metal on-premises using UPI/IPI
- OpenShift cluster lifecycle management, upgrades, and multi-cluster operations
- Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RH-ACM) for multi-cluster fleet management, governance, and application deployment
- OpenShift GitOps / ArgoCD for declarative, Git-based management of cluster configuration, operators, and workloads
- OpenShift Virtualization (OCP-Virt / KubeVirt), including deploying and operating VMs, live migration, VM templates, and instance types
- Hands-on Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) experience from VMware vSphere and/or RHV
- Kubernetes clusters and workloads administration
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration
- Experience with both Linux and Windows VMs in containerized/virtualized environments
- VMware vSphere knowledge including vCenter, ESXi, clusters, vDS networking, and vSphere datastore storage
- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and/or Python for infrastructure and migration automation
- Networking and storage fundamentals, including OVN-Kubernetes, SDN, multipath storage, ODF/Ceph, NFS/iSCSI/FC integration
- Customer-facing communication, workshop facilitation, documentation, expectation management, and translating business requirements into technical solutions
- Preferred: large multi-cluster estates (15+ clusters / 5,000+ VMs) across multiple data centers or availability zones
- Preferred: GitOps at fleet scale, ArgoCD ApplicationSets, sync waves, multi-tenant AppProjects, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
- Preferred: Open Policy Agent / Gatekeeper, Compliance Operator, CIS benchmark scanning, and automated remediation
- Preferred: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenShift Monitoring, Loki/EFK
- Preferred: live migration at scale, workload density tuning, and bare-metal performance baselining
