Job Description

RF Firmware Engineer leading embedded C/C++ development for LMI’s mesh-networking platforms serving defense and government customers. Integrating RF transceivers, validating hardware, and supporting secure production deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead firmware development for new RF hardware platforms supporting LMI mesh networking products
  • Work with external hardware design firms to integrate the Texas Instruments CC1200 transceiver into next-generation hardware designs
  • Develop, modify, and maintain embedded firmware for RF transceiver capabilities and radio performance
  • Design and implement RF communication protocols, device drivers, and hardware abstraction layers
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation of prototype and production hardware
  • Troubleshoot RF performance issues using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF test equipment
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, cybersecurity, and systems engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Support firmware verification, manufacturing test development, and production readiness
  • Participate in field testing, customer demonstrations, and deployment activities
  • Produce technical documentation for firmware architecture, integration, testing, and manufacturing
  • Support design reviews and provide technical guidance on RF system architecture and implementation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline
  • 8+ years of embedded firmware development experience using C/C++
  • Experience developing firmware for RF transceivers or wireless communication systems
  • Experience integrating RF chipsets into embedded hardware platforms
  • Strong understanding of SPI, UART, I2C, GPIO, interrupts, and embedded peripherals
  • Experience debugging embedded systems using JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF test equipment
  • Experience working with external hardware vendors and cross-functional engineering teams
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance preferred
  • Experience with the Texas Instruments CC1200 transceiver or similar sub-GHz RF devices desired
  • Experience developing mesh networking or low-power wireless communication systems desired
  • Familiarity with BLE, LoRa, 802.15.4, or proprietary RF protocols desired
  • Experience supporting DoD or government technology programs desired
  • Understanding of secure communications, cryptographic key management, and secure firmware development desired
  • Experience supporting manufacturing test and production transitions desired
  • Approximately 20–30% travel to customer sites, integration events, hardware design reviews, manufacturing partners, and field testing activities
