Job Description
Senior Accountant managing investment operations at Backflip. Lead workflows in investment management and implement institutional-grade accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead accounting workflows for investment management entities and related securitizations, including:
- Day-to-day accounting activities (journal entries, accruals, allocations, etc)
- Monthly and quarterly close activities
- Tracking securitization cash flows, reserves, fees, and balances
- Reconciliations between trustee/servicer reports, Backflip’s loan management system (LoanPro), and the GL
- Prepare internal tracking and compliance schedules related to asset management and securitization activities, including equity and debt balances, interest expense, issuance costs, and covenant compliance
- Plan and implement the insourcing of processes currently performed through a third-party fund administrator (entity bookkeeping, reconciliations, close support, reporting, and audit/tax support)
- Oversee audit, tax, and stakeholder support, including coordinating with auditors, tax preparers, trustees, and administrators
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting rigor as the platform scales
- Draft and maintain high-quality accounting and reporting process documentation, including
- Accounting policies, close checklists, and support schedules
- Standardizing charts of accounts
- SOPs, templates, and recurring schedules
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Active CPA preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience at a top-tier financial institution or accounting firm
- At least 2+ years of experience with:
- Loan/debt accounting
- Fund accounting, SPVs, investment entities, or alternative asset managers
- Securitizations and warehouse facilities
- Cash waterfall concepts and trustee reporting
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP for loan portfolios, monthly close mechanics, and financial reporting
- Familiarity with complex entity structures and capital markets strategies (warehouse lines, ABL, notes sales, securitizations, etc.)
- Experience owning reconciliations and preparing support schedules with minimal oversight.
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Attention to detail, strong follow-through, and comfort meeting stringent deadlines
- Advanced computer skills - demonstrated desire to learn new technologies (we use Slack + Google Workspace + HubSpot + QuickBooks Online + more)
- Experience with LoanPro (or a similar loan management system) is a plus/required.
