Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer scaling Fundraise Up’s global nonprofit fundraising platform. Building Node.js and TypeScript services for high-volume donations, analytics, and reliable distributed systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain clean, efficient, and scalable backend services in Node.js and TypeScript
- Develop new product features from concept to deployment with product managers and frontend engineers
- Own key parts of backend architecture and make decisions improving performance, reliability, and security
- Write unit tests and conduct code reviews
- Identify and implement system improvements and refactor legacy code
- Mentor others and share engineering expertise
- Actively use AI in day-to-day work and identify opportunities for AI to improve work
- Resolve complex challenges in a high-load, distributed system
- Build and scale infrastructure processing millions in donations
Requirements:
- 7+ years of backend development experience, preferably in a product-driven environment
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and modern frameworks such as Koa or NestJS
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, including advanced typing and module systems
- Solid experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis
- Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or similar analytics databases and Elasticsearch
- Strong understanding of system design, clean architecture principles, and performance optimization
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and see projects through to completion
- Comfortable working within a Russian-speaking team
- Already using AI meaningfully in work and understanding where it adds value
- Prior remote-first distributed-team experience, monitoring/observability tools, and nonprofit technology interest are nice to have
