Job Description

Senior Backend Engineer scaling Fundraise Up’s nonprofit donation platform with Node.js and TypeScript. Building distributed backend services, donation infrastructure, portals, and analytics pipelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain clean, efficient, and scalable backend services in Node.js and TypeScript
  • Develop new product features from concept to deployment with product managers and frontend engineers
  • Own key parts of the backend architecture and make decisions improving performance, reliability, and security
  • Write comprehensive unit tests and conduct code reviews
  • Identify and implement system improvements, including refactoring legacy code
  • Mentor others and share engineering expertise
  • Use AI actively in day-to-day work and identify opportunities where AI can improve processes
  • Resolve complex challenges in a high-load, distributed system
  • Build and scale infrastructure processing millions in donations
  • Work across the checkout experience, donor portals, and analytics pipelines

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of backend development experience, preferably in a product-driven environment
  • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and modern frameworks such as Koa or NestJS
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript, including advanced typing and module systems
  • Solid experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis
  • Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or similar analytics databases and Elasticsearch
  • Strong understanding of system design, clean architecture principles, and performance optimization
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and complete projects
  • Comfortable working within a Russian-speaking team
  • Meaningful existing use of AI in professional work
  • Prior experience in a remote-first, globally distributed team preferred
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog preferred
  • Interest in the nonprofit technology sector preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders preferred
