Job Description
Senior communications specialist developing public affairs, social media, and multimedia content for Aptive’s federal VHA AI Education Hub. Translating AI and health IT topics into accessible messaging for Veterans, clinicians, and public-sector stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, draft, and disseminate press releases, official statements, and media advisories for VHA AI Education Hub programs and milestones in accordance with VA public affairs guidelines
- Manage and execute social media strategies across approved federal platforms
- Create policy-compliant content promoting AI education resources and stakeholder engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming media inquiries
- Coordinate media responses with VA communications leadership, contracting officers, and subject matter experts
- Maintain a communications calendar tracking deadlines, campaign timelines, and media outreach
- Collaborate with program managers, technical subject matter experts, and graphic design teams on newsletters, fact sheets, infographics, and video scripts
- Monitor, analyze, and report communications performance metrics
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve outreach effectiveness and audience engagement
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, or a closely related field
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related discipline required
- Experience supporting federal government agencies, healthcare organizations, or other highly regulated institutions
- Familiarity with federal communications policies, clearance/approval workflows, and Section 508 compliance requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential
- Ability to successfully pass a VA background investigation
- Ability to access VA systems and facilities as required by the contract
- Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States
- May be subject to federal contractor employment eligibility verification (E-Verify)
- Proficiency in drafting and editing press releases, media statements, and social media content
- Portfolio or writing samples demonstrating experience across diverse communications formats and audiences
- Desired: Experience supporting VA, VHA, or other federal health agency communications programs
- Desired: Familiarity with artificial intelligence, health IT, or emerging technology topics
- Desired: Experience with federal digital communications platforms and tools
- Desired: Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards for digital content
- Desired: Experience developing integrated communications campaigns
- PMP, APR, or equivalent professional certification is a plus
