Job Description
Senior Engineering Manager leading Grafana’s frontend platform and navigation squads. Improving open-source observability software through frontend architecture, AI automation and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads
- Own performance, delivery and customer outcomes for two distributed engineering squads
- Set expectations, delegate, coach, develop team members, provide feedback and address performance gaps
- Own hiring and team planning across both squads
- Lead discovery with customers, community members and internal users
- Partner with Product, Design and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies and make trade-offs
- Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement
- Use AI to synthesise research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
- Improve planning, decision-making and delivery through AI and automation
- Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability and multitenant capabilities
- Set engineering direction for navigation, search and resource organisation
- Uphold engineering standards for quality, security and operability
- Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D to increase engineering productivity
- Participate in the engineering management on-call rota and drive improvements reducing recurring disruption
- Use Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation
Requirements:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams and developing technical leaders
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
- Strong product and customer judgement
- Clear, concise written communication
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation
- Appreciation for open-source development
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them
- Applicants must be from Canada and in EST time zones
- Bonus: Experience with React, TypeScript or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
- Bonus: Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions
- Bonus: Experience with navigation, search, information architecture or resource-management products
- Bonus: Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
