Job Description

HVAC Field Service Technician providing exceptional service and support for Smardt's high-efficiency chillers. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer communication in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional technical service on Smardt chillers, including indoor and outdoor equipment.
  • Perform equipment startups, commissioning, troubleshooting, warranty work, and routine maintenance.
  • Diagnose and resolve operational issues accurately, safely, and professionally.
  • Travel within the assigned local market and occasionally beyond, as required by business needs.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment operation, maintenance requirements, service performed, and outstanding issues.
  • Complete installations, equipment deliveries, and removals in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain availability for on-call emergency service, typically approximately one week every one to two months, or as business needs require.
  • Ensure all tools, testing devices, PPE, and service equipment are safe, properly maintained, and used in accordance with company requirements.
  • Recommend repair, replacement, or service options to customers when appropriate.
  • Promote service agreements and additional service work to support customer needs and equipment reliability.
  • Leverage technical support from head office or other internal resources when needed.
  • Complete service documentation, reports, and administrative requirements accurately and on time.
  • Follow all company safety standards, customer site requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of HVAC field service experience.
  • Chiller service experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Turbocor and/or magnetic bearing systems is considered a strong asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical school diploma, HVAC certification, or equivalent technical training preferred.
  • EPA certification required where applicable.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, refrigeration cycles, and related mechanical/electrical components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC and chiller operational issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, service bulletins, and equipment documentation.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to use computer systems, mobile applications, and service software to complete service reports and access technical documentation.
