Job Description
Sessional Ombudsman resolving complex banking and finance disputes for Australia’s independent AFCA complaints authority. Delivering fair, independent decisions on a flexible appointment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with complex and significant banking and finance disputes
- Apply sound judgement and analyse complex legal issues
- Work collaboratively with experienced Ombudsmen, lawyers, and industry experts
- Deliver independent, fair, and balanced decisions
- Contribute to outcomes impacting consumers, small businesses, and the financial services sector
- Serve as a Board-appointed Ombudsman for a three-year term
- Work on a per-engagement basis
Requirements:
- Accomplished senior lawyer, former Partner, barrister, executive legal leader, or banking and finance professional
- Deep banking and finance industry expertise
- Strong track record of achievement
- Experience navigating complex legal and commercial issues
- Experience in banking regulation, Banking Codes of Practice, contract law, insolvency, securities, lending, and dispute resolution
- Strong communication with influence and empathy
- Ability to balance independence with collaboration
- Commitment to fair, objective outcomes and high standards of integrity and impartiality
- Legal qualifications
- Substantial senior-level experience within banking and finance, a tribunal, regulator, external dispute resolution scheme, or related environment
