Job Description
Senior software engineer designing scalable market-data services for Alpaca, a global brokerage infrastructure company. Building developer-first APIs and production systems for stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange data.
Responsibilities:
- Build and scale the systems and services forming the foundation of Alpaca and empowering millions of users trading assets
- Improve Alpaca’s architecture for market data products including stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange markets
- Oversee public API structure and documentation for streaming and historical endpoints
- Plan, ideate, experiment, and put new services and libraries into production
- Design highly scalable, mission-critical market data provider services
- Maintain software quality and test coverage
- Participate in code reviews
- Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs
Requirements:
- BSc/MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum 3 years of backend software development experience
- Hands-on experience with Docker or Kubernetes
- DevOps mindset
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience building and architecting systems at scale
- Deep understanding of POSIX-like operating systems, modern infrastructure, and orchestration practices
- Nice-to-have: experience working with large datasets
- Nice-to-have: Kubernetes experience; CKA or CKAD certification is a plus
- Nice-to-have: SQL experience
- Nice-to-have: IP networking experience
- Nice-to-have: understanding of financial markets
- Nice-to-have: experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Nice-to-have: shell scripting, Linux, and Docker knowledge
- Nice-to-have: microservice architectures
- Nice-to-have: clean code principles
- Tech stack includes GoLang, Python, REST, gRPC, WebSockets, SSE, Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Services, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK
