Job Description
Part-time Pennsylvania substitute teacher delivering virtual instruction for Connections Academy students. Managing online lessons, grading, learning plans, records, and parent communication from a home office.
Responsibilities:
- Virtually support the learning program for students in Connections Academy schools across the country
- Act as teacher of record during short- or long-term teacher absences or vacancies, typically assignments of 2–20 weeks and averaging 8–12 weeks
- Be online and available to students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday during assigned school hours
- Communicate regularly with parents, students, and teachers
- Develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules
- Provide feedback on student work and suggest instructional approaches and strategies
- Monitor assignment completion and verify student learning
- Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences
- Support synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons)
- Assist students and parents with alternate instructional strategies, daily assignments, and projects
- Maintain current student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and student logs
- Collaborate with counselors and special educators to meet individual student needs
- Provide updates on student behaviors and classroom activities
- Check email regularly when not on assignment for upcoming assignments and Substitute Services updates
- Meet at least monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing
- Complete required professional learning throughout the year
- Maintain active certifications
Requirements:
- Must be highly qualified and hold a valid and active full state teaching certification
- Multiple state certifications a plus
- Ability to obtain certification in other states as requested
- Ability to obtain additional clearances as requested
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Dedicated, distraction-free home working environment where all business activities will occur
- Availability Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone, for long-term assignments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity
- Understanding of IEP/504 plans and virtual implementation
- Excellent attention to detail and strong time management and organizational skills
- Proven commitment to student achievement
- Strong technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps preferred
- Reliable, high-speed internet access
- Microsoft OS- and Microsoft Office-equipped computer required (PC preferred)
- Customer-focused approach and team-player track record
- May not provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements required
- May not be employed in another job during normal school hours while on assignment
- Complete required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year
- Two-step authentication required to log in to all systems if offered the job
