Job Description
Systems Engineer supporting OpenTeams’ open-source AI/ML infrastructure platforms. Managing internal systems and assisting customer government deployments.
Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the internal request queue, triaging, resolving, escalating, and tracking requests to completion
- Administer Google Workspace and identity systems, including accounts, groups, SSO integrations, security policies, onboarding, and offboarding
- Support provisioning and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, including accounts, IAM roles, networking basics, resource tagging, and cost visibility
- Deploy and operate internal applications on Kubernetes using Helm and ArgoCD under senior-engineer guidance
- Maintain the internal Astro website backed by EmDash, including build pipelines, deployments, DNS, and content publishing support
- Build and maintain monitoring and alerting while reducing alert noise
- Handle security and access hygiene, including patching, MFA enforcement, access reviews, endpoint configuration, and offboarding
- Handle incoming customer-team issues by reproducing problems, gathering logs and context, resolving issues covered by procedure, and handing off others
- Execute deployment and maintenance runbooks against customer environments
- Track issues through closure and maintain accurate customer-facing status
- Assist with hardening and compliance work, including hardened configurations, control evidence, and infrastructure documentation
- Grow into environment builds, configuration changes, and platform ownership
- Transfer effective patterns between customer platforms and internal systems
- Participate in incident response and contribute to system-focused postmortems
- Collaborate with a fully remote distributed team using asynchronous communication
Requirements:
- 1–3 years of combined experience in IT support, systems administration, or infrastructure work
- Comfort with Linux and the command line, including filesystems, permissions, processes, logs, systemd, package management, and SSH
- Working understanding of networking fundamentals: DNS, DHCP, HTTP/TLS, VPNs, and firewalls
- Scripting ability in Python and/or Bash
- Comfort with Git and pull request workflows
- Hands-on exposure to at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Exposure to containers
- Experience administering SaaS tools such as Google Workspace or Slack, including user lifecycle and permissions
- Strong written communication skills
- Genuine service orientation
- Willingness to learn and acknowledge knowledge gaps
- U.S. citizenship
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, including a federal background investigation
- Preferred: SQL and relational databases
- Preferred: Kubernetes, kubectl, and Helm
- Preferred: GitOps tooling such as ArgoCD or Flux, or CI/CD pipelines
- Preferred: Infrastructure-as-code tools such as OpenTofu, Terraform, Pulumi, or Ansible
- Preferred: Identity and SSO standards including Keycloak, OIDC, or SAML
- Preferred: Monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
- Preferred: Frontend or static site experience, particularly Astro, or headless CMS experience
- Preferred: Python data science ecosystem or JupyterHub familiarity
- Preferred: Security+ or comparable certification, or security fundamentals coursework
- Preferred: Regulated or government environment exposure, including RMF, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, or restricted-network deployment
- Preferred: Open source contribution experience
