Job Description
AI automation engineer transforming HVAC contractors’ undocumented back-office processes into reliable workflows. Building and improving automations for invoicing, permits, rebates, and other operations.
Responsibilities:
- Learn how each HVAC business operates by joining onboarding calls, shadowing Senior Office Managers, and working with owners
- Document current-state processes and design ideal AI-enabled workflows
- Write clear specifications for automations the system can execute
- Build automations using the workflow builder, automation engine, and agentic tooling
- Own automations in production by monitoring runs, catching failures, and diagnosing account-specific issues
- Implement error handling, fallbacks, and checks for reliable workflows
- Write specifications, skills, and templates to improve system performance
- Identify recurring patterns across accounts and dimensions of variation for configurable workflows
- Bring field learnings back to the product roadmap and help shape platform development
- Own outcomes for assigned customer accounts, including hours saved, faster invoicing, and fewer missed tasks
- Report to the Co-founder
Requirements:
- Clear process thinking; ability to map tangled small-business operations end to end and simplify them
- Experience using interviews, documentation, and flowcharts to change how work gets done
- Technical fluency with AI tooling and effective LLM prompting
- Experience building with workflow tools such as Zapier, Make, or n8n, AI coding tools, or scripts
- Ability to read API documentation and understand integrations between systems
- Ability to understand platform capabilities and limitations and communicate clear requests to engineers
- Comfortable leading discovery calls with business owners and Senior Office Managers and presenting built solutions
- High bar for quality, including attention to edge cases, error handling, fallbacks, and output validation
- Trades or SMB industry experience, FSM platform familiarity (HouseCall Pro, ServiceTitan, or Jobber), and/or QuickBooks or small-business bookkeeping familiarity are bonuses
- Willingness to work with United States work authorization requirements
