Job Description

Senior Software Engineer building automation, testing frameworks, and developer tooling for Wiley’s global learning, science, and publishing platforms. Improving reliability, scalability, and engineering productivity with AI-enabled practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build software, frameworks, tools, and automation that improve product quality and engineering efficiency
  • Develop scalable automated testing across APIs, services, integrations, user interfaces, distributed systems, and end-to-end workflows
  • Build and evolve reusable automation frameworks and shared engineering capabilities
  • Partner with software engineers on architecture, design, and development to improve testability, reliability, resiliency, and maintainability
  • Define technical approaches for test infrastructure, automated environments, test data, mocks, service virtualization, and dependency management
  • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable, actionable feedback
  • Determine effective testing strategies across unit, component, contract, integration, API, and end-to-end layers
  • Identify gaps in coverage, reliability, tooling, and engineering processes and build sustainable solutions
  • Investigate complex defects, automation failures, and production issues; perform root-cause analysis and prevent recurrence
  • Improve performance, reliability, observability, scalability, and maintainability of automation and test infrastructure
  • Contribute to application and service code to improve testability, instrumentation, reliability, or system behavior
  • Collaborate on technical designs to address quality, resiliency, observability, and operability early
  • Lead technical discussions and influence engineering standards for automation, software quality, reliability, testing, and continuous delivery
  • Explore and apply AI-assisted engineering for test generation, intelligent automation, failure analysis, coverage analysis, defect detection, and productivity
  • Evaluate AI-enabled development and automation tools, frameworks, and patterns
  • Mentor engineers and raise automation, software quality, and engineering capabilities
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and foster collaboration

Requirements:

  • Significant hands-on software engineering experience designing and building automated testing solutions
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Python, or similar
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automation frameworks using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or comparable tools
  • Strong experience testing APIs, backend services, integrations, data flows, and distributed systems
  • Experience with modern software architecture and understanding complex interactions across applications, services, infrastructure, and data layers
  • Strong understanding of unit, component, contract, integration, API, and end-to-end testing strategies
  • Experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery workflows
  • Experience debugging complex systems and performing root-cause analysis across application, service, data, infrastructure, and automation layers
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, maintainability, testability, observability, and engineering best practices
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, pull-request workflows, and modern software development practices
  • Experience contributing to engineering architecture, technical design, or platform-level decisions
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, AI frameworks, agents, or AI-enabled automation, or strong interest in emerging AI-driven engineering approaches
  • Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, MongoDB, MySQL, observability platforms, and DevOps practices is a plus
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience mentoring engineers and improving technical practices across a team
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
