Job Description

AI Engineer at Sentara designing, building, and operationalizing intelligent services for document understanding and AI outcomes integration. Collaborating with product managers, data scientists, and ensuring compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, builds, and operationalizes production-grade intelligent services that automate document understanding
  • Powers semantic/retrieval-enhanced search
  • Enables conversational/agentic experiences
  • Integrates AI outcomes into core business systems
  • Owns the full lifecycle from architecting secure, compliant solutions to deploying and scaling them in production
  • Works with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, multi-agent orchestration, and API integrations for EHR, CRM, and member portals
  • Solves complex problems, ensures HIPAA compliance and Responsible AI practices

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science, engineering, math, or related technical field (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Certified Azure AI Engineer Associate or related (Preferred)
  • 3 years in software or data engineering (Required)
  • 1 year applying ML/AI in production - model training, deployment, or integration into applications or equivalent experience—open-source contributions, startup work, intensive bootcamps, or research (Required)
