Job Description
Claims Counsel managing title insurance claims for Stewart, a global real estate services company. Ensures accountable decisions and resolves claims under title insurance policies.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures accountable decisions are taken at the right level in the organization
- Interprets internal/external business environment
- Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and legal representation of insured
- Negotiate settlements and claim resolutions with claimants, third parties and opposing counsel
- Manages personal caseload including handling matters involving fraud, forgery, missed liens, access issues, easement disputes and more
- Identify and posture resolved claims for recovery or salvage efforts
- Performs specialized assignments; solves complex problems and develops non-traditional solutions through sophisticated analytical thinking
- Recommends best practices to improve processes or services
- Individual contributor working independently; may require guidance in highly complex situations
- Occasional travel to and participation in mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
- Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction required
- Typically requires 2+ years of related work experience
