Job Description
Coding educator developing training, audits, and quality reviews for SSM Health’s provider documentation and coding practices. Ensuring regulatory compliance, revenue integrity, and coding accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate delivery of coding educational programs
- Promote consistency and accuracy of coding and documentation practices
- Act as liaison for coding questions and concerns between providers, coding, corporate responsibilities, and educational departments
- Assess provider documentation and coding competency to identify improvement opportunities
- Develop and deliver training and education on coding processes
- Monitor regulatory changes and work with leadership to ensure compliance and revenue integrity
- Serve as subject matter expert for providers and coders, providing guidance and clarification on daily account-processing issues
- Establish and coordinate internal quality review processes and related training
- Evaluate provider documentation for clarity, completeness, and consistency to support optimal code selection
- Educate providers on coding guidelines, practices, and documentation techniques
- Audit provider documentation to identify opportunities or risks and develop education based on findings
- Maintain communication with coding and corporate responsibility regarding education and directions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or related field, or equivalent years of experience and education
- Three years' experience
- One of the following required professional certifications: Certified Coding Associate (CCA) - AHIMA; Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) - AHIMA; Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) - AAPC; Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) - AAPC; Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA; or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA
- State of work location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry
- Ability to perform the listed physical requirements, including frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive movements, and occasional lifting/carrying or pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
