Job Description

Software engineering director leading architecture, teams, and AI-enabled delivery for KinderCare’s nationwide child care platforms. Driving digital transformation across family- and center-facing products.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a vision and strategy for KinderCare’s Software Engineering capability, covering people, process, and technology
  • Lead development and delivery of high-quality software solutions across multiple platforms
  • Develop managers, software engineers, architects, and cross-functional technical leaders across distributed teams
  • Build organizational capability through workforce planning, succession planning, talent development, and leadership coaching
  • Improve team throughput and developer productivity through AI development tooling, modern engineering practices, and process improvement
  • Establish and govern architectural direction and technical roadmaps for software products
  • Balance contract workers and full-time employees to optimize delivery capacity, cost, and knowledge continuity
  • Partner with Product Management, Quality Engineering, Portfolio, and Infrastructure/Operations to align and deliver software products
  • Set quarterly team objectives and key results aligned with business priorities and technology strategy
  • Ensure software development and architecture processes are efficient, effective, and scalable
  • Evangelize KinderCare’s Discovery to Delivery framework
  • Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Participate in cross-functional technology leadership activities and strategic initiatives
  • Provide customer-focused responsiveness for problem solving and incident management
  • Cultivate an MVP-delivery mindset across teams

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in software development
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing and developing onshore and offshore software engineering teams
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software products
  • Experience managing software architects and developing architectural talent
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows
  • Track record of improving team throughput through AI tooling and process improvement
  • Experience delivering customer websites, applications, and services, including payment solutions and financial transactional systems
  • Strong technical background in software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies
  • Experience optimizing Agile software engineering delivery across multiple platforms and product teams
  • Experience balancing contract and full-time employees
  • Experience managing vendor relationships for contract engineers and managed software engineering services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment
