Job Description

Head of Applied AI leading Colibri Digital’s production AI engineering capability. Shaping client solutions, technical standards, commercial growth and reusable AI propositions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow Colibri Digital's AI engineering capability
  • Shape the technical direction, standards, people, propositions and growth of the Applied AI capability
  • Lead AI discovery, consulting and solution conversations with senior clients from opportunity through delivery
  • Set standards across architecture, engineering, testing, CI/CD, MLOps/LLMOps, evaluation, security and AI governance
  • Ensure AI solutions progress from experimentation into reliable, scalable and governed production environments
  • Challenge architecture, estimates and delivery approaches before commitments are made
  • Lead, mentor and develop AI engineers and senior technical specialists
  • Work with sales and pre-sales to build pipeline, win new work and expand client relationships
  • Turn successful client solutions into repeatable offerings, accelerators and reusable intellectual property
  • Help manage revenue, utilisation, capacity and margin across the practice
  • Build Colibri's visibility in the AI market through clients, partners, events, content and thought leadership
  • Travel to client sites, partner events and Colibri/Nasstar offices, including central London, when required
  • Participate in talent, leadership, technical/working, peer/practice and executive conversations during the hiring process

Requirements:

  • Deep technical expertise in modern AI engineering, particularly LLM-based systems, RAG, agentic or multi-agent architectures, vector databases/embeddings and AI evaluation
  • Experience taking AI or ML solutions from prototype through to reliable production use
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including system design, APIs, version control, automated testing and CI/CD
  • Experience of MLOps/LLMOps and operating AI systems in production
  • Experience with modern cloud AI technologies and platforms
  • Experience leading engineers building AI systems while retaining strong technical credibility
  • Experience working directly with senior clients, ideally within consulting, professional services or another client-led technology environment
  • Experience in pre-sales, including discovery, solution shaping, proposals, pitches, or helping win and expand client work
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing technical people
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI, governance, evaluation and deploying AI safely at scale
  • Ability to move between business value and commercial outcome discussions and detailed AI solution design discussions
  • Comfortable operating without layers of infrastructure, taking ownership and turning ideas into action
  • Remote within the UK with travel required
