Job Description
Head of Finance owning regulated insurance carrier accounting, reserves, controls and reporting for Zego in Gibraltar. Partnering with Actuarial and Group Finance while leading a lean team and maintaining GFSC compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Own the general ledger and insurance balance sheet in NetSuite, accounting for premiums, claims, commissions, reinsurance recoveries and profit-share arrangements
- Lead month-end and year-end close and produce insurance-carrier management accounts
- Prepare annual statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102) and Gibraltar Companies Act requirements
- Support GFSC regulatory returns and Solvency II reporting, including QRTs, SFCR and ORSA inputs
- Reconcile balance sheet, bank, fiduciary and intercompany accounts with actuarial reserves
- Partner with Actuarial, underwriting and pricing teams on reserves, loss ratios, combined ratios and product profitability
- Design, implement and enforce financial controls and SOPs
- Manage external audits and act as primary contact for auditors and the GFSC
- Ensure timely corporate tax filings and regulatory financial submissions
- Manage, mentor and develop one finance team member
- Oversee cash flow, liquidity, rolling forecasts and investment income accounting
- Own and maintain the ZIL finance systems stack and data integrity
Requirements:
- Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- Proven experience in insurance carrier balance-sheet accounting; broker or agency-only experience is insufficient
- Experience working closely with actuaries and conceptual understanding of reserving, pricing and capital modelling
- Familiarity with Solvency II reporting, including QRT, SFCR and ORSA
- Experience preparing statutory accounts
- Experience building, testing and enforcing internal financial controls
- Experience managing and developing direct reports in a lean environment
- Experience managing external audits end to end
- Willingness and ability to hold a GFSC-approved regulated-person position for ZIL
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining quality and accuracy
- AI-first mindset, curiosity and willingness to use AI daily and learn quickly
- Gibraltar or comparable small-jurisdiction regulatory experience is advantageous
- Big 4 insurance audit experience is a bonus
- Hands-on NetSuite experience in an insurance or MGA setting is a bonus
