Job Description
HR Manager owning payroll, benefits, Rippling, compliance, and employee lifecycle operations for BookNook’s K–8 tutoring platform. Serving as the company’s sole HR leader.
Responsibilities:
- Own the day-to-day People Operations function as the company's sole HR leader
- Oversee end-to-end payroll and partner with Finance and payroll providers
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax and employment requirements
- Manage employee benefits administration, vendors, advisors, annual renewal, and open enrollment
- Administer and oversee the 401(k) plan
- Manage payroll and benefits changes and resolve discrepancies
- Partner on annual audits and required filings
- Own Rippling administration, including data, workflows, permissions, reporting, integrations, and configuration
- Maintain employee records, confidentiality, and data accuracy
- Develop and improve HR processes, policies, SOPs, and workflows
- Ensure HR compliance and maintain the employee handbook
- Support leave administration
- Own onboarding and manage employee lifecycle events
- Manage offboarding, final pay, benefits transitions, COBRA, documentation, and system access
- Support performance management processes and documentation
- Support recruitment through job description development, posting, screening, and coordination
- Provide guidance on employee relations and escalate matters appropriately
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience
- Hands-on experience as an HRIS administrator
- Rippling experience strongly preferred
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification strongly preferred
- Experience supporting a growing company with a lean HR function
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and prioritize competing demands
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage confidential information
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
