Job Description
Engineering Lead shaping technical direction for Ad Hoc’s federal digital-service programs. Mentoring engineers, leading delivery, and managing team development for government customers.
Responsibilities:
- Work with leadership to shape the technical direction of the program
- Lead people, mentor engineers, and support exposure to people management
- Cross-functionally lead program delivery
- Develop understanding of program scope, schedule, and cost management
- Articulate contractual delivery requirements to team members
- Coach and develop engineering team members
- Define growth goals and development plans with leadership
- Mentor Engineers on one or two teams in technical direction and career management
- Lead team processes and identify best practices to fill gaps
- Partner with key stakeholders to advocate for technical solutions and communicate tradeoffs
- Describe systems, design decisions, and past performance through written communication and presentations
- Participate in bid-writing, tech demos, strategic planning, and client-facing communications
- Present ongoing engineering work, future goals, and risks
- Translate and communicate technical challenges and roadmaps
- Participate in interviews and develop/grade homework
- Handle hiring, performance management, timecard reviews, PTO management, and team development
Requirements:
- 9+ years of relevant engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree
- 2+ years of mentoring and coaching experience
- Experience communicating and leading tasking efforts to support delivery
- Must meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation as a condition of employment
- Extensive experience with software development, customer interactions, formal and informal communication, and mentorship
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate technical decisions for non-technical audiences, including federal agency stakeholders
- General understanding of government contracting requirements and regulations
