Job Description

Lead HV/EHV substation EPC engineering for Leidos, a technology-focused power and telecommunications solutions provider. Direct multidisciplinary design, technical delivery, client coordination, and commissioning support.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the overall technical lead for HV and EHV substation EPC projects and own integrated technical solutions and engineering deliverables
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across substation physical, protection and control, relay settings, SCADA/communications, civil, structural, geotechnical, and supporting disciplines
  • Establish technical approach, design basis, engineering execution strategy, and interdisciplinary requirements
  • Lead substation physical and protection and control design, drive technical decisions, resolve design issues, and ensure constructible solutions
  • Coordinate interfaces among engineering disciplines, equipment suppliers, construction teams, clients, and project management
  • Oversee engineering from conceptual design through IFC design, procurement, construction support, testing and commissioning, and energization
  • Serve as the primary technical client contact and communicate recommendations, risks, alternatives, and decisions
  • Lead technical reviews and ensure QA/QC across engineering packages
  • Mentor engineers and develop future project technical leads
  • Apply industry standards, safety codes, regulatory requirements, and construction codes
  • Create equipment, material, construction, testing, and commissioning specifications
  • Perform QC reviews and lead QC review meetings for engineering deliverables
  • Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams
  • Maintain project technical documentation and coordinate with project managers
  • Work directly with clients on project issues, meetings, and job-site visits
  • Evaluate existing facilities and propose upgrades and replacements
  • Apply value engineering principles for economical, constructible, and safe designs
  • Complete conceptual one-line and general-layout designs for project planning
  • Provide professional mentorship and set a positive example for teams and junior staff

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university
  • Eight (8)+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design/engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Required
  • Experience serving as lead engineer, project engineer, technical lead, or engineering manager for HV/EHV substation projects
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate interfaces across substation disciplines
  • Strong working knowledge of substation physical and protection and control design, with depth in at least one discipline
  • Comprehensive understanding of utility power generation, transmission, distribution, and substation engineering principles
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI standards and their application
  • Ability to research engineering issues, evaluate alternatives, make recommendations, and present findings
  • Ability to meet deadlines under high-pressure situations
  • High computer competency and proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and lead varied teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel locally/regionally up to 15% of the time
  • Preferred: HV/EHV project experience; brownfield and greenfield substation experience; EPC or Progressive Design Build contract experience; client liaison experience; QC review and staff training/mentorship experience; renewable generation or interconnection experience; SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software experience; engineering society membership; construction support experience
