Job Description
Materials and engineering expert creating objectively graded tasks for Mercor’s AI-lab and enterprise model-training projects. Testing, analyzing, and refining model performance with domain experts.
Responsibilities:
- Author realistic, domain-authentic materials-science or engineering tasks based on prior work
- Build data rooms and grading criteria for objectively scorable tasks
- Run tasks against AI models
- Analyze model successes and failures
- Iterate tasks until they effectively discriminate model performance
- Work with project leads and domain experts to define quality standards
- Participate in daily onboarding sessions and office hours
- Contribute to training and enhancing frontier AI systems
Requirements:
- Senior expertise in materials science, including metals, ceramics, composites, characterization, or additive manufacturing; or electrical engineering (analog, RF, power); or mechanical engineering (design, CFD and fluids, heat transfer, pressure vessels, NDE, CAE)
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity
- Able to explain why a wrong answer is wrong, not only identify the right answer
- Must be an independent contractor
- H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported
