Job Description
Membership Growth and Retention Specialist expanding Girl Scout membership across Northern Illinois. Recruiting, supporting, and developing volunteers through community events and leadership programming.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement plans for membership growth and retention through volunteer engagement
- Schedule and manage recruitment events in assigned areas approximately 2–3 times per week during peak seasons, independently or with volunteers
- Deliver or support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience until adults are trained and ready to serve as volunteers
- Provide direct support to troops and girls when required
- Promote belonging and ensure Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults through outreach to community groups, organizations, and other constituencies
- Provide onboarding, ongoing support, supervision, conflict management, and direction to volunteers
- Interpret council policies, standards, and procedures for volunteers
- Participate in developing environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access
Requirements:
- Belief in the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character
- Interest in actively supporting girls’ leadership development
- Ability to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week
- Availability for weekends and evenings
- Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds
- Minimum of 2–3 years of related work experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate, motivate, and maintain effective relationships with volunteers and staff
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Frequent travel within the Council area
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
