Job Description

Regional Director advancing Movement Voter Project's grassroots progressive power strategy across Western states. Building partner relationships, recommending grants, and supporting policy and electoral organizing.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as MVP's main liaison with local groups, intermediaries, select national partners, and select donors across priority Western states
  • Report to the Director of State Programs and collaborate with State Advisors and Capacity Building teams
  • Continue developing and implementing MVP's Western strategy, particularly for Nevada and other necessary states
  • Analyze regional political landscapes, progressive infrastructure, challenges, and opportunities
  • Identify regional approaches supporting ecosystem building, policy gains, and electoral needs
  • Build relationships with local, state, and national partners to advance policy, ecosystem-building, and electoral goals
  • Ensure power-building investments reflect MVP's mission and commitments to anti-oppression, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice
  • Maintain trusting, strategic relationships with partners and allies
  • Support groups with electoral, issue advocacy, base-building, staffing, capacity, plans, and budgets
  • Identify infrastructure gaps and political opportunities
  • Draft internal strategy documents and external C3, C4, and PAC state plans
  • Make short- and long-term investment recommendations
  • Manage state grantmaking budgets and track partner budget gaps
  • Nurture new and emerging movement voter organizing groups, alliances, and campaigns
  • Administer and track grants with MVP's grantmaking team
  • Maintain grantmaking recommendations and tracking systems in Airtable or other systems of record
  • Support organizational development and implementation of best practices
  • Engage local funders, organizing networks, intermediaries, influencers, and donor tables
  • Lead MVP's engagement with state C3, C4, donor tables, and local alliances
  • Complete legally compliant program reports and measure progress against goals
  • Provide strategic insights and feedback to State Programs leadership and organizational leaders
  • Share effective practices with partners and State Advisors
  • Document and share stories and photos from local organizations, campaigns, and individuals

Requirements:

  • Depth of knowledge of political and movement ecosystems in the state gained through political campaign experience and/or movement organizing experience
  • Experience working across diverse movements, coalitions, and constituencies
  • Passion for supporting a diverse ecosystem of grassroots organizations
  • Ability to assess state funding landscapes and grassroots groups' capacity to grow and expand
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
  • Organizational and campaign leadership experience, preferably at the senior level
  • In-depth understanding of the funding landscape in Western states, particularly Nevada, preferred
  • Some experience with, or strong desire to learn about, fundraising and grantmaking
  • Demonstrated success supporting and coaching a wide variety of leaders and organizers
  • Experience in state-based organizational leadership roles
  • Familiarity with Slack, Airtable, VAN, and Google Suite preferred
  • Some experience with, or strong desire to learn about, compliance issues guiding 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC work
