Job Description
Merck HIV Medical Science Liaison advancing community virology care across Florida and the Southeast. Building scientific partnerships, supporting trials, and translating field insights into Medical Affairs strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, establish, and manage collaborative professional relationships with community-based scientific leaders and healthcare providers
- Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable Medical Affairs presence
- Engage in proactive non-product discussions about scientific issues, prevention gaps, disparities, and barriers to uptake
- Facilitate scientific information exchange and integrate scientific knowledge with actionable insights for research, development, and strategy
- Communicate stakeholder opinions, insights, and feedback on data, clinical trends, and the HIV treatment and prevention landscape to Medical Affairs headquarters teams
- Represent R&D at scientific meetings and congresses and contribute to debriefs, insight discussions, and post-congress reports
- Develop and execute territory plans aligned with global Virology strategy
- Support data generation activities, including the Investigator Study Program
- Identify potential investigators for phase II-IV clinical development programs
- Provide scientific support for R&D-sponsored trials
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease and therapeutic areas through educational efforts
- Comply with company policies and applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards
Requirements:
- Doctorate degree or advanced practice professional (PhD, PharmD, NP/PA, etc.) relevant to Virology and the position
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare environment
- Minimum 3 years of clinical and/or research experience in Virology/HIV or a related therapeutic area
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and presentation skills
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time overnight and reside in the coverage region
- Deep therapeutic competency and awareness of trends and new information in Virology
- Ability to network and partner with external scientific leaders and healthcare providers
- Ability to consolidate and understand complex data sets, plan and/or execute data analyses, summarize or synthesize data, and objectively interpret results
- Knowledge of national and society treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, OIG, HIPAA, and relevant ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
- Awareness of unmet needs and implementation barriers affecting priority populations in community-based and non-medical spaces
- Prior experience in the coverage region and established relationships with HIV community stakeholders, especially in HIV prevention
- Demonstrable effective leadership skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Valid driving license required
