Job Description
Senior underwriting counsel supporting commercial real estate title insurance transactions at First American. Providing legal guidance, risk analysis, and underwriting authorization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel and customers related to issuing real estate title insurance commitments and policies
- Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite title insurance issuance
- Provide guidance to company personnel in performing real estate settlement services
- Issue underwriting standards and guidelines according to established company processes
Requirements:
- 8-10 years title underwriting experience; commercial experience preferred
- Law Degree required
- Admitted to practice law in state of employment
- Licensed to practice law, in good standing
- Familiarity with real estate law
- Strong understanding of real estate title and settlement processes
- Strong analytical rigor and business acumen
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to provide alternative solutions or convey unpopular information with tact
- Ability to collaborate and act decisively; build internal and external relationships
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask, prioritize, and timely follow up
