Job Description
Senior Counsel providing legal support for OpenAI's marketing organization. Collaborating across teams to ensure marketing initiatives are legally sound and effective.
Responsibilities:
- Be the primary go-to counsel for OpenAI's marketing organization.
- Partner with marketing, brand, communications, product marketing, growth, creative, performance and events teams on campaigns across digital, print, social, influencer, email, events, and other channels.
- Advise on advertising, consumer protection, endorsements, promotions, contests, claims, IP, privacy, and marketing-related regulatory issues, including FTC, state UDAP, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and EU/UK standards.
- Review and approve marketing claims, campaign materials, creative concepts, product launch assets, and brand initiatives in a practical, business-oriented way.
- Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative ways and build processes for scaling flexible solutions that address risk.
Requirements:
- Have 10+ years of experience with a mix of in-house and technology-focused law firm roles.
- Understand the letter of the law and can approach problems in a practical, principled approach.
- Can develop systems and mechanisms to work at scale and simplify on behalf of your business partners.
- Build cross-functional relationships and communication styles that resonate with marketing, creative, communications, and product teams to balance risk-taking with responsible development.
- Have a strong sense of ownership, are inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology, enjoy being continually challenged, and can demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
- Have a JD and license or qualification to practice in CA.
